With a background in sculpture, internationally acclaimed artist Neville Gabie’s practice has always been driven by working in response to specific locations or situations caught in a moment of change. Highly urbanized or distantly remote, his work is a response to the vulnerability of place. Gabie’s interest is in establishing a working relationship within a particular community as a means of considering its physical, cultural or emotional geography.

Philip Gross – writer and poet and Valerie Coffin Price – artist, writer, walker in an afternoon of poetry, readings and conversation
Philip Gross is an award-winning poet and writer. He has won the TS Elliott prize for poetry, published many poetry collections for adults and children and worked collaboratively with musicians and playwrights. He is one of the most versatile cross-arts collaborators in poetry today, working with artists, musicians, dancers, film makers and puppeteers, as well as other writers. Philip sees collaboration not as the opposite of the individual creative voice but as a way to find and deepen it.
Valerie Coffin Price brings insights from her career as a walking artist, immersed in nature and will join Philip with readings.
WE promise an inspiring afternoon.
There will be time for audience Q & A.

Join Philip Gross and Valerie Coffin Price for this inspirational workshop.
Whether we come from the world of word or image, we can all delight in the interplay between them. Experienced collaborators poet Philip Gross and walker-artist Valerie Coffin Price invite you to explore the evocative power of fragments, the found and the fleeting, in a creative workshop to which beginners and practitioners are equally welcome. Writers and visual artists will benefit from this fun and inspirational workshop.
Philip Gross is a poet, novelist, arts collaborator and teacher. He has published twenty poetry collections, including four for children, and won many of the major awards in British poetry, from the National Poetry Competition to the TS Eliot Prize.
He has over thirty years of appearances at festivals and venues.
Valerie Coffin Price is an artist-letterer working with issues to do with the environment, language and cultural identity. The poetic resonance of language and its connection to the environment drives her work, which explores ideas of mapping in relation to a sense of place, as well as an understanding of community and landscape.
In one of Philip and Valerie’s groups don’t expect to be told ‘Do this, do that…or do like I do.”
Expect to be encouraged to take chances, learning when it’s right to stop and think hard, and when to let the words fly. There will be conversation, sharing and a creatively enjoyable day.
